Family:Whitney, George Leavitt (1817-1889)

George Leavitt⁸ Whitney (Hananiah⁷, Hananiah⁶, Samuel⁵, William⁴, Nathaniel³, John², John¹), son of Hananiah⁷ and Mary Leavitt (Beals) Whitney, was born 16 Dec 1817, Winchendon, MA, and was baptized 29 Sep 1823, Winchendon, MA,^[1] and died 22 Aug 1889, Newton, MA, aged 72 years 8 months 6 days, of dilatation of heart.^[2]

He married firstly, 30 Mar 1841, Lowell, MA, Harriet A. Mears "both of Lowell",^[3] daughter of Daniel and Mary (-----) Mears. She was born about 15 Dec 1819, Albany, ME, and died 4 Mar 1866, Stoneham, MA, aged 46 years 2 months 19 days, of scrofula humor.

He married secondly, 7 Nov 1866, Stoneham, MA, Elizabeth Ann (Leeds) Washburn, daughter of Joseph and Eliza (Lynde) Leeds. She was born 9 Jan 1830, Stoneham, MA.^[4] The identity of her first husband ----- Washburn is not known.

He was a grocer and farmer.

i.	George M.9 Whitney, b. ca. 1846, MA. He was probably the George Whitney, b. ca. 1847, Springfield, MA, son of George L. and Harriet (-----) Whitney, who m. 12 Apr 1875, Boston, MA, Sarah L. Johnson, b. ca. 1853, Lynn, MA, dau. of James and Sarah (-----) Johnson.[5]
ii.	Clara B. Whitney, b. 2 Nov 1848, Lowell, MA.[6] Her name was alternately Clara J. Whitney.

George Leavitt⁸ and Elizabeth Ann (Leeds)(Washburn) Whitney had no children.
