He married, before 1850, Parthena Smith, daughter of John and Eunice (Steward) Smith. She was born 1 Dec 1813, St. Albans, ME, or Hartland, ME, and died 7 Mar 1893, probably Bingham, ME, aged 79 years.

Joel was a farmer.

Joel and Parthena are buried in the Bingham Village Cemetery in Bingham, ME.
