Family:Whitney, Mary (1710-1788)

Mary⁴ Whitney (Jonathan³, Benjamin², John¹), daughter of Jonathan³ and Susannah (Fairbanks) Whitney, was born 28 May 1710, Sherborn, MA,^[1] and died 9 Jul 1788, Milford, MA, in her 78th year.^[2]

She "of Holliston" married May 1735, Hopkinton, MA, Joseph Jones "of Mendon",^[3] son of Elder John and Sarah (Lobdell) Jones. He was born 27 Dec 1709, Mendon, MA, and died 3 Apr 1796, Milford, MA, in his 87th year. He was buried -- Apr 1796, Milford, MA. He was also known as John Jones in marriage record.

He left a will on 4 Sep 1792 at Milford, MA; it mentions son Joseph, Jr., of Milford, and his children by wife Ruth, of whom grandson David was to have the residue of the estate; son Jonathan and his children by wife Mary; son Timothy and his children by wife Ann; daughter Susannah, wife of John Robinson of Milford.

Pierce says the following:^[4]

MARY [WHITNEY], b. May 28, 1710; m Joseph JONES, b. Dec 27, 1709; d. Apr 3, 1796. She d. July 9, 1788. He was a large landholder; res. Mil. Ch.: Susanna, b Nov 10, 1733; Hanna, b. July 3, 1736; d. young: Joseph, b. Sept 29, 1737; m. Ruth NELSON: Mary, b. Oct 16, 1740; m. James SUMNER, Esq.: Lydia, b. Apr 2, 1744; Jonathan, b. Aug 11, 1746; m. Mary BALL; David, b. July 10, 1749; d. young; Timothy, b. Apr 25, 1751; m. Ann SCAMMELL.

iii.	Mary Jones, b. 16 Oct 1740, Mendon, MA; d. 9 Aug 1791, Milford, MA; m. 7 Jul 1784, Milford, MA, James Sumner Sr., son of Joseph and Sarah (Lovett) Sumner, as his second wife.
iv.	Susanna Jones, b. 29 Nov 1741, Milford, MA; m. John Robinson.
v.	Lydia Jones, b. 2 Apr 1744, Mendon, MA; d. 24 Jan 1744/5, Mendon, MA.
vi.	Jonathan Jones, b. 11 Apr 1746, Mendon, MA; m. Mary Ball.
vii.	David Jones, b. 10 Jul 1749, Mendon, MA; d. 20 Jul 1750, Mendon, MA.
