Newton⁷ Whitney (Nehemiah⁶, Walter⁵, Samuel⁴, Richard³, John², Henry¹), son of Nehemiah⁶, was born 15 Mar 1828, Stamford, NY, and died 18 Apr 1891, Jackson, MI.

He married, 27 Aug 1851, Potsdam, NY, Jane Eliza McFarling, daughter of Alexander and Jane (Keachie) McFarling. She was born 7 Jun 1830, Mariatown near Morrisburg, Canada West, and died 26 Feb 1898, Jackson, MI.

Phoenix says the following:

". . . a cutter and engraver of marble . . . . He lived in Potsdam for two years; in Ogdensburgh, N.Y., three years; in Lansing, Mich., sixteen years; and, in 1870, moved to Jackson, Mich., where they were living in Sept. 1874."
