Welcome P.8 Whitney (Asa7, Eleazer6, Nathan5, Thomas4, Eleazar3, Thomas2, John1), son of Asa7 and Martha (Cook) Whitney, was born about 1816, Halifax, VT, and died 17 Mar 1869, Readsboro, VT, aged 53 years.

He married, say 1835, Ruth B. Lake, daughter of Burden and Hannah (Gatrix) Lake. She was born 26 Dec 1819, Heath, MA, or Whitingham, VT, and died 13 Feb 1888, Whitingham, VT. She married secondly, 21 Sep 1871, Whitingham, VT, or Heath, MA, Joseph Farnum, son of ----- and Martha (Harrington) Farnum, born about 1811, Conway, MA.[1]

Children of Welcome P.8 and Ruth B. (Lake) Whitney, possibly incomplete:

i. Amanda S.9 Whitney, b. ca. 1835, Buckland, MA; m. 26 Aug 1858, Buckland, MA, Henry M. Kellogg, of Bloomington, IL, b. ca. 1834, Shelburne, MA, son of Elem Kellogg.[2]
ii. Sarah Whitney, b. ca. 1846, Readsboro, VT; "age 23" m.(1) 29 Apr 1864, Adams, MA, Nathan A. Bishop, b. ca. 1841, Readsboro, VT, son of Chauncey and Semanthy (-----) Bishop;[3] m.(2) 24 Jun 1877, VT, Selah H. Holbrook.
iii. Susan Ellen Whitney, b. 1 Apr 1849, North Adams, MA, or Readsboro, VT; d. 16 Nov 1910, Brattleboro, VT, aged 64 years;"Susan" "age 18" m.(1) 14 Apr 1864, Adams, MA, Seth M. Bishop, b. ca. 1839, Readsboro, VT, son of Chauncey and Semanthy (-----) Bishop;[4] must have been a divorce because Seth m.(2) bef. 1870, Harriet L. Hicks. She "Ellen Whitney" "age 17" "of Readsboro" m.(2) 25 Jun 1865, Whitingham, VT, Augustus Barker, son of David and Augusta (-----) Barker.[5]
iv. William Whitney, b. ca. 1858; m.(1) ----- -----; m.(2) 5 Dec 1901, Pittsfield, MA, Helen Prober, b. ca. 1868, Red Hook, NY, dau. of William and Eliza (Hunt) Prober.[6]
