Martin Luther Whitney (John), son of John and Jane (Gilson) Whitney, was born 20 Jul 1825, Lowell, MA, and died 10 Nov 1849 "in California", recorded Lowell, MA,[1] aged 24 years 3 months 20 days.

He married, 22 Aug 1844, Lowell, MA, Mary Louise Pollard both "of Lowell", daughter of John Lynde and Mary (Prevost) Pollard. She was born 7 Aug 1830, Montreal, QC, or about 1827,[2] and died 16 Jan 1913, Geauga County, OH, aged 84 years 5 months 9 days. She "Mary L. Pollard" married secondly, 6 Apr 1861, Washington, DC, Col. Ernest M. Bement. She married thirdly, 24 Jan 1867, Washington, DC, Henry Augustus Sherrill, son of Franklin and Mary Ann (Edwards) Sherrill, born 20 Sep 1824, Richmond, MA.

ii. Mary Margaret Whitney, b. 3 Feb 1845, Lowell, MA,[4] or 3 Feb 1846, Lowell, MA;[5] d. 7 Mar 1842, Lowell, MA, aged 1 month 3 days, of whooping cough,[6] or 7 Mar 1845, Lowell, MA, aged 1 month 3 days, of whooping cough.[7] According to the Bible record, b. 2 Feb 1847, d. 4 Mar 1847.
