He married, 5 Sep 1833, Shelby, NY, Sarah Lucinda Locklin, daughter of John and Laura Ann (Post) Locklin. She was born 29 Apr 1811, Dunham, Canada, and died after 1880.
Phoenix says the following:
- ". . . a carpenter . . . . He went, with his father, to Shelby, in Jan. 1816, and was still living at Shelby Centre in 1873."

They dwelt at Barre for six months; at Shelby till 1864; at Ridgeway for six months; and then returned to Shelby, where they were living in 1873. ii. Martha Ann Whitney, b. 31 Mar 1842, Orleans Co., NY; m. 3 Jul 1870, Shelby, NY, Benjamin House Dunlap, son of William and Betsey (Hunt) Dunlap, of Shelby, b. 11 Aug 1840, Shelby, NY; a farmer. They settled at Shelby, and were living there, without children, in 1873. iii. Laura Maria Whitney, b. 19 Sep 1847, Orleans Co., NY; was living in Shelby, NY, with her parents, in 1873. iv. James Burt Whitney, b. 25 Nov 1851, Orleans Co., NY; was living in Shelby, NY, with his parents, in 1873; m. bef. 1877, Emma A. Curtis.
