Capt. Nathan5 Whitney (Nathan4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Nathan4 and Lydia (Young) Whitney, was born 30 Apr 1742, Biddeford, ME,[1] and died before 7 Apr 1834, Columbia, ME.

He married, Columbia, ME, circa 1770, Patience Barnard.

Patience Barnard was born in 1742, Greenland, NH, or circa 1752, Portsmouth, NH, and died 1840.

They lived at Columbia, ME, and Addison, ME. They were reported to have come from York, ME to Columbia Falls, Washington County, ME in 1768. (Early Pleasant River Families, p. 627)

iii. Daniel Whitney; b. 10 Feb 1778, Columbia, ME.[5]
iv. Thankful Whitney; b. 16 Jun or 16 Dec 1780, Columbia, ME;[6] d. 2 Feb 1864, Tamworth, NH; m.(1) 8 Oct 1805, Machias, ME, Moses Lambert;[7] m.(2) 15 Jul 1808, Machias, ME, Isaac Meader of Durham, NH. She did not marry, but had a child, Lydia Whitney, with Jeremiah O'Brien. He was b. 1744, and d. 5 Sep 1818, Machias, ME. Lydia was b. 10 Jun 1804, Machias, ME, and d. 18 Mar 1898, Lynbrook, Hempstead, Queens Co., Long Island, NY. She m. 10 Mar 1823, Machias, ME, Aaron Simmons Sherman, b. 20 Oct 1798, Marshfield, MA, d. 22 Jul 1881, Bridgewater, MA.
v. Joseph Whitney; b. 17 Feb 1782, Jonesboro, ME;[8] m.(1) Mary C. Libby; m.(2) Rebecca Libby.

ix. Lucy Whitney; b. 6 Apr 1793, Columbia, ME;[13] m. (int. 22 Sep 1819, Columbia, ME[14]) 22 Sep 1819, Cherryfield, ME or 4 Nov 1819, Columbia, ME, Isaac Guptill, b. 24 Jul 1788, Gouldsboro, ME, d. 3 Jan 1872, Harrington, ME. They had six known children, the first three b. Cherryfield, ME.
