Family:Whitney, Timothy (1776-1836)
Timothy7 Whitney (Timothy6, Moses5, Timothy4, John3, John2, John1), son of Timothy6 and Mary (Hyde) Whitney, was born 1776, and died 23 May 1836, Newton, MA, aged 54 years.[1]
He married, 24 Jun 1824, Newton, MA, Margaret "Peggy" Thayer,[2] daughter of Lott and Sarah (Scott) Thayer. She was born about 1789, and died 27 Dec 1828, Newton, MA, aged 39 years.[3]

- 6 Sep 1836, petition of Elisha Hyde, his largest creditor, that Ephraim Jackson of Newton be appointed Admin. of his estate. Timothy Whitney, yeoman, who last dwelt on land Newton, within six months last past died intestate, possessed of goods and estate remaining to be administered, having no widow, having two children only both minors, that it is the request of Elisha Hyde the uncle and one of the largest creditors, that Ephraim Jackson should be appointed admin. of his estate.
- Ephraim Jackson of Newton, yeoman, as principal, and Elisha Hyde and Joseph Stojne, both of said Newton, yeomen, as sureties, was appointed administrator of the estate of Timothy Whitney, late of said Newton, deceased, 6 Sep 1836.
- Notice was published in the newspapers, as reported by Ephraim Jackson on 20 Apr 1837.
- 19 Sep 1837, Luther Paul, Thaddeus Hyde, and Noah King, all of Newton, were appointed to take his inventory. It consisted of $718.00 in real estate and $35.75 in personal estate, total $753.75.
- 20 Mar 1838, first administrator's account by Ephraim Jackson. Mentions Otis Trowbridge, the guardian of Elisha Whitney and Sarah Whitney, minor children of Timothy Whitney, late of Newton, who did not object to the account.

- 13 Feb 1838, Stephen Whitney petitioned the court, declining to be guardian of the children of his brother Timothy Whitney deceased, and he desired that Mr. Otis Trowbridge be so appointed.
- On 17 Feb 1838, Otis Trowbridge of Newton, yeoman, as principal, and Ephraim Jackson of Newton, yeoman, and Elisha Hyde of Needham, as sureties, posted bond as guardian of Elisha Whitney and Sarah Whitney, minors under the age of fourteen and children of Timothy Whitney late of said Newton, deceased.
- 20 Mar 1838, petition of Otis Trowbridge, guardian of Elisha Whitney and Sarah Whitney, minor children of Timothy Whitney, late of Newton, deceased, concerning Timothy's real estate. It consisted of about 27 acres of land in the south part of Newton, a town road passing through the same, with an old house and barn thereon. The buildings required very extensive repairs, and that said minors do not have sufficient personal property for that purchase. Thus Otis Trowbridge asked that the property be sold and the proceeds divided between them. The sale was ordered on 15 May 1838. Notice of the sale was posted in local newspapers, ending on 9 Mar 1839, and the land was sold 21 May 1839, to William H. Sumner, for $800.

Elisha8 Whitney, b. say 1824; probably that Elisha Whitney who d. 29 Jul 1880, Newton, MA, aged 60 years, of phthisis.[5] Although that man is reported as married, no record of his marriage has been found; and his birthplace and parentage are reported as unknown. ii. Sarah Whitney, b. ca. 1827; m. 6 Apr 1848, Lancaster, MA, Charles H. Arnold, b. ca. 1820, son of Asa and Mary (-----) Arnold.[6]
